If you can dream it you can live it..vision board coach Rebecca Kano

On Saturday, I was reminded of a Biblical scripture, "Where there is no vision, the people perish.
Listen, Rebecca talks
This is because, I had found myself in the vision workshop of Zimbabwean born public speaker, author and life coach, Rebecca Kano.
Vision Board
The Fourways based single mother of two, had all the attention of visionaries, strategist and 2019 year planners  eating in the palm of her hands. This as she explain the importance of having your dream in front of you with pictures and positive words that will help you get to where you want to be in life.
Ladies at the workshop busy writing their 2019 goals

As a child, Kano's family lost everything when she was a child in Zimbabwe. She was later adopted by an American family where she also worked as an aupair. She came to South Africa just a few years ago, where she is starting a new chapter as a divorcee.
Love hug from another sister
"Anyone who plays a role in society or at home, ie mom, dad, son and daughter. You are still an individual. You need to know who you are and who you becoming. Once you know your character and what you love doing then it is easier for you to fulfil the role of being CEO or leader in the society," said Kano to a group of mainly ladies who attended her workshop on Saturday.
She operate  the workshops through request from the public other times, cooperate invitation and family bookings.
Rebecca encouraging woman to live their dream
"It is always wonderful to see people transform or see what they visioned actually come to pass. I've been using this method since 2011 in my life and started giving workshops full time in 2016.

Just like last Saturday, her class held in Fourways north of Johannesburg, South Africa was packed with women from all racial and different backgrounds. A stand up is planning to give a door to door  comedy service to his clients. The comedian  argues, with these economic times, people want to cut cost on going out. A Spanish woman recently moved to South Africa and is not social media savvy wants to connect with business minded people. She also teaches Spanish.

With the powerful music background music of American Icon singer Beyonce Knowles, "I was Here" song,  the group of women were encouraged to write down their goals in each of the the following categories, Relationships, Health and Wellness, Spirituality, Education learning and development, Finance, career and business.
"The exercise is to encourage your inner character to come out," said Kano.
She uses everything from  her body language and demonstration to show her students, the process of going after your goal will not be easy. But they must always find a way to win.
Goal focused
"Finding a way of going after what you need might mean the road will not be always smooth and straight. Sometimes you will need to take the longest route to where you going but you will always find a winning.

Her class are also interactive and guest are also encourage to introduce themselves and exchange business contacts before the class ends, the students are asked to write down three things that will stop them from achieving their goals. A lot had fear, doubt and procrastination as their biggest stumbling block.

"Last year, I had a Zulu men who came through with his wife to class. He had to understand what the whole exercise was about before he partook on the process. He gave me a hard time, but I think he also wanted to know the process before he could commit to it.It is always nicer for each person in the family to have their own individual visual board. It is a constant reminder of where you want to go and the goals you want to achieve. I encourage people to look at their vision boards every three months and tick off things that they have achieved," All the goals are achievable you need to work on getting to your dream house or car. Everything needs action.

"Black man if you want something, do it yourself" saysSA tv gangster, Israel Matseke Zulu

Without the guns and harsh words that often set twitter on fire on Mzansi Magic's series iNumber Number, it is not easy to take the character of skroef or Mugza in the film, Hard to Get
out of Israel Matseke Zulu.

He still walks like the two characters in the film, talks like them but without the action and the drama of a film of course. The only difference is, in real life, this former jail bird want to leave a legacy that says, "Black men if you want something, do it yourself, there's no one who will help you achieved what you want in life." Yesterday, my cousin brother, Likhona Ndabeni and I found ourselves at tenth Avenue Alexandra township to meet a man who has so many street names. King of Gomorrah, King of Amaroto, Skroef. He is amongst the best in acting a character of a gangster. By the way, he was once a gangster and spent eight years in jail for the crimes he committed then. Also known as GP_ maorange,  an acting and dance academy with his former Sun City prison mate now turned actor, Vusi Shilenge in his home township Alexandra, South Africa.
former car hijacker and house robber Vusi Shilenge has turned his life around. He is now a South African actor and mentors music, acting and dancing talent in his township Alexandra.
He proudly tells me this is his fifth school, Israel Academy which he operate in school classrooms around the oldest township in South Africa after 5pm. A talent coaching school that he finance and had been running for more than twenty years without any brand partnerships or government funding. But despite it all, the school has produced amongst other  television stars, Kgosi Mungake, Keabetswe ramashintsha, Thabang Mokoene, Kgothatso Kekana. "Create something out of nothing" is a module he says he use and by the surrounding and condition of the class, this becomes evident. "What if you do not get funding? You get disappointed and you will never do what you would love to do. "All my projects are paying project and all of my students who are given an acting, dance or singing role, I make sure they get paid. It's a system that I use to alleviate poverty in our black townships. Most children from this Academy are bread winners at home. That feels my heart because all these children are all coming from poverty stricken homes, some come from abusive homes different but painful backgrounds. They are here to do what they enjoy I make sure all my classes are entertaining so that they can keep coming back to learn,' says the Yizo Yizo star. His students had appeared in many films including, iNumber Number, Black Sushi,Soul Buddies, Soul City including adverts and soapies.
Zulu says he doesnt want anything in return for  his time and skills but he is eager to make the children  so occupied that they do not have time to spare."think about it, if the kids knock of at 3pm at school, does homework and soon after he comes here for a practise. By the time his day is over, he doesn't have any other options but to go home and prepare for the next day. This keeps them busy there's not time to think about any crime," he said. As he gets his students ready for rehearsal of Africanism.
A theatre play which will be release in March in all Gauteng province theatres. It is a play that seek to teach Africans to be proud of themselves, heritage and culture. Matseke Zulu had always been passionate about the arts. His love for performing started at a very young age, performing in churches, community  halls and was a member of a gumboots dance club. He says because the industry did not pay in the days, he opted for being a soccer player and later fell into a trap of crime.
"Growing up in an apartheid South Africa, it was very easy to be involved in gangsterism. In Alexandra township where I grew up, our role models were gangsters. i was mentored by gangsters. I knew I will be in prison for what I was doing. Everyone around me had either been or came from prison. It is a life I had lived, it is not as glamorous as they make it look on tv. It is hardcore, you experience, robbery, bullying and if you not aware, the surroundings can strip you of the man you really are,' Matseke Zulu was heard telling another online tv channel.
Before practise begin with some warm ups, the class has to first pack the desk and chairs against the window, sweep the floor clean before class began with an African Dance accompanied only by him playing the instruments. Not much is said, as everyone follow the dance root, the jazz song and drum beat. Our host is also caught up in the sound, monitoring  carefully the feet movement the students, the beat and the jazz song in the background. "Be professional in everything you do. You cant come here and do a rush rush job. Repeat again," he stopped the drum to confront a student whom through nerves, didn't do her acting lines properly. As spectators, we didn't notice. But the master did, he stopped playing the ground and join the students to demonstrate what the dance move should be like.
Even that, he does it so effortlessly as his body slide side to side like a snake. Ofcourse, there was a trip which saw the whole class laughing at him. But there were no love lost as the next performance gave a stunner performance in her poetry lines of the upcoming theatre play, Africanism. The play is written and directed by him."Amongst all the themes I thought I should explore this year. Is that of teaching us black pride. Be proud of who we are as a black nation and be proud of where we come from. Celebrate African pride those are amongst other things I want to explore with this theatre play.
His classes are divided into two groups, the senior class and the junior class. On the classes we cut short because of the storm. As much as everyone enjoyed the rehearsal, the man in charge send them all home. "We need to be responsible in whatever we do.These parents trust us with their children so we need to respect that too. It is a win, win situation for all of us. Spending time with them is my way of giving the community what was not given to me as child. If we become spiritual about it, I can say rehearsal heal me from my nightmares nobody has told me to do this.
Before the junior class could go home, a short prayer is made for their safe travel.

Let Benoni's cake master worry about your birthday cake

The smell of butter mixed with eggs, milk, sugar and flour in the oven hits you the moment you enter Nyathi Street in Benoni, South Africa.
This is where the township, led Percy cake empire was born. It is is still at its infant stage but judging by the excellent service it provide, one knows the business has reached a peak of taking off.  It was almost the end of August last year when I came again to Benoni. This time to pick up my two-year-old nephew, Ntando Ndabeni's  birthday cake.

Percy the township master of Cakes for any occasion.
Me trying to market beads business at my son's 1st birthday. My print journalist colleagues, Gabi, Monica, Nomahlubi came through for me.
I was so taken by the work Percy did on my son's birthday. I wanted to tell everybody about his work so that he can fly.
The price for what was done on my son's birthday cake was nothing from what I got from them.
My friend, Gabi Mbele came up with the idea of this cake.
We were even able to share the cake with all the kids and parents that came through to the party on 4th February 2017 at the Zoo Lake and the kids under the theme of minions.
My nephew's cake Ntando Ndabeni
My cousin, Linam Ndabeni had chosen the Tom and Jerry theme. Apparently, Ntando loves Tom and Jerry Cartoons. We posted videos of his party on my facebook account: khanyiswa ndabeni
Pic from Percy's Cakes facebook page
On my second visit, I marveled at the growth of Percy's business. When I initially came, he was just using his sisters kitchen to bake the cakes, but now, he had built himself a bakery a step away from the kitchen he first started from. This bakery is different from the one you probably used to, this one is a two bedroom shack decorated by a bakery stove and all the bakery equipment you can think of. Percy himself came out wearing his white uniform. But I was not in a rush this time. I asked to come in and see where he works. To be honest, I was struck by the progress of a young brother from a similar background as mine just doing it.
Pic from Percy's Cake facebook page
It turns out, Percy, like the majority of many black children in his age in South Africa. Her sister, couldn't afford to take him to varsity when he needed it. He was baking then but it was not really his passion, he wanted to study something else. But circumstances forced him to bake and sell cakes to neighbours and family in Benoni Township, South Africa. The initially recipe for scones and other cake were shared by grannies in his neighborhood. The tasters and critic's of his work were  of course were his  friends. The nod from these critics led to Percy being confident in selling to the public.
Pic from Percy's Cake facebook page
But the money was not enough to build a business he wanted. He worked at Game Stores and Something Fishy and saved up enough money to study and operate his business.
Percy's Cake facebook page
It is his love for what he currently do that saw him through his Diploma in food preparation and cooking. After he completed Intec College certificate.

His facebook page can set your tongue wet with the beautiful wedding, birthday and many moments that are celebrated better with a piece of Cake. Whether it my favourite, a chocolate, a Swiss Meringue with orange n oreo, Vanilla and Chocolate, you name it Percy is your man.

His artistry is not only in the design of  a car, a shoe, dress, spider man, minions or any design you can think of in a cake. Everything is beautiful inside and out in at the when tasting his work.

Star FM and Platinum North West TV presenter Nthabiseng Mkwanazi on helping women move forward

I kicked off the year on a very high note for my business. I mean, last year we started the craft  business and we didn't know if people will accept us and the product, but look at us now. Through the ups and downs we still standing.
Star FM presenter, Nthabiseng Mkhwanazi
Since 2018 didn't swallow us, then, we need to make the best of 2019 and let more women in  South Africa and the world  to know who we are and what we are about. What a good way of introducing yourself to the women in the North West province in South Africa,by being invited to a radio magazine programme, Moving Forward, hosted by the beautiful and energetic Nthabiseng Mkwanazi.
Boom Shaka, screengrab from the internet
From the time we were in the car, my aunt and I were busy jamming to the old school Kwaito she was dishing on her show. On our way to her studio, I  found myself waving Thobela to every stranger passing by our car. My aunt and I were already in studio with this woman and her listeners who were sending birthday wishes to their loved ones... Talking about radio being a theatre of the mind... Anyway there was such warmth even when meeting up with her. (Please check out my radio interview with her on my facebook wall, khanyiswa ndabeni). My trip to the province was to show my blog readers from Germany, USA and Ukraine what we ordinary South Africans are about. With my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 gadget I was able to share videos of my trip to this mining town. I still say Samsung should add me on their list of ambassadors, I've found myself praising them even on air. Free airtime nhe? But at least they acknowledged us on facebook and even liked our live video showing you guys around the mine township. Yes, Klerkdorp is a gold mine town. Majority of the black community are from the   Eatern Cape and Lesoto and their either employed as security guards, miners, domestic workers few are teachers, nurses and policemen. So here we were with this lady who has interviewed the stars.
Nthabiseng the go getter

I mean who were we? The girl has interviewed many Stars during her four year radio career. I can name award winning singer and Afro Soul singer, Amanda Black and  Lady Zamar.

Nthabiseng with news anchor Masabata Sekgonyane

And being raised by a single mother, Dikeledi Mkwanazi didn't stop her from trying to make her dreams of being a plus size model, a TV presenter on Platinum North West TV and presenter on Star FM. Her women's show, Moving forward  reach listeners as far as the Free State. Produced for women, the show touches on social issues, relationships, marriage health and home remedies as well as motivational topics.

With Lady Zamar
Apparently radio found this gorgeous lady and not the other way around. But she also see herself grow in the entertainment industry but doesn't want to forget her community in the process.

Trying her luck in playing a guitar
Her other skills include acting and poetry.

We at Ndabeni Creatives don't know what the future holds for this young lady but  we can be certain that the sky is the limit for her.
